Planning a Cast Basalt Chute Lining Retrofit in a Coal Washing Plant

Identify the wear problem

Coal washing plant chutes and silos can experience rapid liner wear under material impact and flow. In the supplied project example, worn steel liners caused frequent repairs and reduced production efficiency. The solution used basalt cast-stone slabs as wear-resistant lining materials.

Review the lining arrangement

Document the equipment geometry, wear locations and existing lining arrangement. Plate thickness, slab dimensions and installation details should be reviewed for the actual operating conditions. Cast basalt tiles are available in several shapes, including rectangular, trapezoidal, arc-shaped, hexagonal and perforated forms.

Use technical selection support

Provide drawings and project requirements for specification selection and installation suggestions. The objective is to match the lining arrangement to the chute or silo rather than choose from appearance alone. Confirm inspection requirements and the information needed by the installation team before delivery.

Evaluate the result in service

The supplied coal washing project reported a longer overhaul cycle and lower production costs after the retrofit. Those results describe that application; performance in another plant depends on its conditions. Follow up on installation, maintenance and operating questions so the lining can be used as intended.
